Climbing training with Kim
February 14, 2009 - What an experience and what a day for the Belgian Alpine Racers.
While Robin departed for Poland and Dries started his final training sessions in Pitztal in preparation for
Topolino, several members of the Brussels Ski Team joined Saturday morning Feburary 14th in
Puurs for an indoor climbing session with Kim. "Kletteren" is considered a very useful dry
training means for alpine skiers. It promotes agility, endurance, flexibility and proprioception.
After a warming-up session, Kim explained the necessary safety measures. The first steps
were at first sight simple traversés. Than it was time for the real work. With thrilling legs (and
arms) Nills, Astrid, Sofie, Astrid, Mendel and Arend started climbing. Soon, most of them
reached the ceiling 15 meters high.
Two hours of climbing were much too short, but all members left very satisfied to watch the
second run of the woman's slalom race in Val d'Isère. We were all overwhelmed by the result
of Karen Persyn, who definitively achieved her selection for the Olympics in Vancouver.
Well done!
